Founders’ Day is when we celebrate the legacy and work of PTA founders, Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst, and Selena Sloan Butler. The PTA, then known as the National Congress of Mothers, was founded on February 17, 1897 with a mission to improve the lives of all children and families.
